Details:
The Faculty of Science and Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), developed the environmental innovation “Water Hyacinth Plant Pot Processing Machine”, led by Dr. Prasert Nontakan. This research innovation addresses plastic waste issues arising from agricultural activities while promoting the use of local natural materials to generate community income. The project was featured nationally on ThaiPBS’s Tookthit Thua Thai program on 12 July 2024, transforming academic research into open-access educational content that fosters lifelong learning. Through workshops and demonstration sessions, such as the technology hand-over at the Pak Phanang Basin Development Coordination and Administration Center (a Royal Initiative Project), the innovation was transferred directly to communities. Participants gained hands-on experience in sustainable production techniques, waste reduction, and eco-friendly entrepreneurship, enabling them to apply and replicate the technology within their local contexts.
Impact Result :
The project converted research innovation into a public learning resource, allowing farmers, students, and community enterprises to access and apply sustainable technology for income generation and environmental management. By bridging scientific research with community education, the initiative empowered learners of all ages to develop practical competencies, promoted inclusive access to knowledge, and strengthened local capacity for sustainable development. This initiative exemplifies how RUTS leverages research and innovation to advance lifelong learning, environmental responsibility, and social impact, aligning directly with the goals of SDG 4: Quality Education.
