Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya is conducting a research project in 2025 titled ” Development of an Automatic Leg Rehabilitation Machine.” The research team—comprising Tanat Tanausavaphol Sugchai Tantiwiwat Wimon Boonrawd and Panadda Solod—aims to develop an innovation designed for the rehabilitation of the elderly, patients, and individuals with mobility impairments.
The device supports both passive and active physical therapy, featuring adjustable resistance, speed, and duration settings tailored to each user’s individual capabilities. It incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) technology to facilitate easier control and data monitoring.
This research project aims to reduce barriers to accessing physical therapy technology and enhance rehabilitation opportunities for populations with specific needs, thereby supporting their quality of life and equitable participation in society.
This research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10—Reducing Inequality—by promoting the inclusion of all groups in society. The actual impact, however, must be evaluated based on the practical application of the device and the rehabilitation outcomes for its users. The research was completed in 2025.

Researchers at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya have successfully completed a research project titled “Development of Smart Assistive Innovations for the Daily Living of Elderly Thais in the Bedroom.” The research team, from the Faculty of Engineering, consists of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chatree Homkhiao, Assoc. Prof. Surasit Rawangwong, and Assoc. Prof. Worapong Boonchuaythan.
The issue stems from the fact that Thailand has been a fully-fledged aged society since 2021. Consequently, the quality of life for the elderly has gained increasing importance—particularly regarding health issues resulting from physical decline, which heighten the risk of accidents such as falls—a leading cause of injury and death among the older population. Furthermore, many elderly individuals wish to remain self-reliant and continue their daily routines at home—particularly in the kitchen, an area that is frequently used and carries a high risk of accidents.
This research aims to develop innovative, smart kitchen amenities for the elderly. The design focuses on tailoring products to the physical characteristics and usage behaviors of older adults, with the goal of reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing convenience in their daily lives. The project includes the development of a smart floor mat capable of detecting pressure and falls—complete with an alert system for caregivers—as well as smart kitchen furniture and kitchen components designed according to ergonomic principles.
Furthermore, the system can record and analyze data on the usage behaviors of elderly individuals, which can then be used for long-term health assessment. The expected outcomes of this research include the development of an innovative prototype that can be practically implemented to enhance the safety and quality of life for the elderly, as well as the generation of knowledge regarding the design of smart products for the elderly—knowledge that can be disseminated both nationally and internationally. This research also contributes to preparing Thailand to effectively and sustainably accommodate an aging society.
