The provision of food services in the university is carried out by external service providers, with detailed operational conditions specified in a contractual agreement. These conditions are established under the criteria outlined in the announcement of the Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya regarding criteria, terms, and methods for the rental rates and maintenance costs of property under the university’s care, within the Songkhla district. The rental rates and property maintenance costs under the university’s care are set in the year. 2025. This is further regulated by a committee responsible for leasing properties, following the university’s order number 956/2023. This committee ensures that businesses complying with the university’s criteria operate under the specified standards. Within the university, there are various food establishments on 3 campuses. There are 7 main food service areas, including:
Central Cafeteria, Songkhla

Tracking food waste. In 2025, RUTS monitored food waste across its three main campuses (Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang), with a combined population of 17,264. The estimate uses 20% of the population as food consumers, or 3,453 people: 2,429 in Songkhla, 783 in Nakhon Si Thammarat and 241 in Trang for calculating food waste per day (ton) (Table 4). Total food waste was 0.470 tons per day, an average of about 0.000027 tons (about 27g) per consumer per day. By campus this was 0.330 tons in Songkhla, 0.107 tons in Nakhon Si Thammarat and 0.033 tons in Trang.
Amount of food waste. Based on 20 operating days per month, the university generated 9.4 tons of food waste per month (Table 5), or approximately 112.8 tons over the 12 months of 2025. Divided by the total campus population of 17,264 students and staff, this equals about 6.5 kg of food waste per person per year. This provides a baseline for setting food-waste reduction targets and measures in the following year.
The food waste is effectively managed by repurposing it as animal feed. External operators from outside the university oversee this waste management process, which is regulated by a central department responsible for managing leasing activities at the university, aimed at creating various forms of benefits.
