1. Overview
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) has established a policy on environmental and energy management, health, well-being, and safety to advance its Green University development and improve energy efficiency across its organizational units. The policy is aligned with the University’s long-term development plan.
2. Policy on Upgrading Existing Buildings for Higher Energy Efficiency
Under its energy and climate change policy, the University is committed to developing an energy management system in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and continuously improving energy efficiency across all units. The policy promotes the adoption of energy-saving equipment, appropriate technologies and best practices, as well as renewable energy.
With regard to buildings, the policy supports the design and renovation of facilities using passive design principles to promote smart buildings, energy-efficient buildings, and green buildings. It therefore provides an institutional policy framework for improving the energy performance of existing university buildings.
3. Supporting Mechanisms and Related Targets
The policy promotes innovation in energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reduction. It sets a target of increasing the share of renewable energy used on campus to at least 25% by 2026 and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2037, as stated in the supporting evidence. The policy also provides for monitoring organizational performance and allocating budgets to support sustainability initiatives.
4. Conclusion
RUTS has an institutional policy supporting improved energy efficiency in existing buildings through the development of an energy management system, the adoption of energy-saving equipment, and the promotion of building renovations based on passive design and green building principles. This policy constitutes relevant institutional evidence for SDG indicator 7.2.2.
