Birds are vertebrate animals with a highly variety, capable of high level of mobility, but they also face a significant risk of extinction due to habitat loss, pollution, hunting for food, and as pets, among other factors. Thung Song Municipality is a town that still has green areas, limestone hills, serving as a corridor for these animals. Surveying birds in Thung Song Municipality, which is an area outside conservation zones, is crucial because it provides data for planning bird conservation in the habitats. Dr. Prasert Nonthakarn, professor of Science and Technology faculty, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, lead a bird survey team in Thung Song Municipality. Over the course of 10 months, he conducted surveys, captured bird images, identify species, and determined the IUCN Red List status of the birds found in Thung Song District.

There were 188 bird species in Thung Song Municipality, two of them were Endanger species: Chloropsis sonnerati and Chloropsis cochinchinensis.

Four of them were Vulnerable species: Rhyticeros subruficollis, Halcyon pileate, Argusianus argus and Cyornis brunneatus.

Eleven of them were Near threatened species: Bubo sumatranus, Anhinga melanogaster, Mycteria leucocephala, Pitta irnena, Eurylaimus ochromatus, Chloropsis sonnerati, Psittacula alexandri, Batrachostomus stellatus, Psilopogon chrysopogon, Actenoides concretus, Cyanoptila cumatilis and Enicurus ruficapillus.
