Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) recognizes and values difference and diversity to encourages building a “respect for people” working environment and ability to live together on individual differences. RUTS believes in upholding the principles of human rights in treating others with equality and without discrimination and harassment against other in the university or any other place related to the operation. Therefore, it is appropriate to determines Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy for operations to progress smoothly.
Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy applies broadly to the university community including all administrators, faculty, staff, and students and sets out clear intention and guidelines as follows:
1. RUTS manages and operates on the principle of equality, honor each other, and respects for human dignity by considering equality and accepting fundamental differences and individual characteristics. RUTS does not accept any type of discrimination and harassment against others, whether it be sexual harassment or non-sexual harassment in the university.
2. RUTS creates a corporate culture, cultivates values, and encourages all administrators, faculty, staff, and students of RUTS to treat each other with respect and respect human dignity.
3. RUTS ensures that all areas have a favorable environment and atmosphere, are safe and suitable to work and study, and does not support any type of harassment as well as to maintain a healthy campus, RUTS strongly prohibits harassment such as intimidating, insulting, or threatening others, whether verbally, in writing, physically, and/or using social media and similar channels.
4. RUTS communicates, educates, and develops an understanding with its administrators, faculty, staff, and students about discrimination and harassment against others in the university by incorporating it as part of the orientation, training sessions, and development programs, including public relations to raise awareness and ensure that everyone adheres to the Policy.
5. RUTS establishes mechanisms and processes for receiving complaints from people who are treated unfairly and/or harassed in the university to prevent and resolve issues related to any type of discrimination and harassment in the university, including communicating to whistleblowers about solutions.
Moreover, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya is aware of promoting gender equality and eliminating unfair discrimination between genders in a university setting requires a comprehensive and proactive approach. University plays a crucial role in shaping societal attitudes and fostering inclusive environments since 2015 until present.
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has issued an announcement to express its intention to promote equality and eliminate unfair discrimination between genders in accordance with the Gender Equality A.D. 2015 by supporting the following issues.
1. Dress Code: Personnel can dress according to their gender or gender identity.
2.Space Arrangement: Arrange space appropriate to the number of people, their limitations, and their gender or gender identity.
3. Job announcements: Do not specify the person’s biological sex or gender/gender identity.
4. Use of words, language and gestures and documents: Strengthen personnel’s knowledge and understanding of appropriate terminology for referring to a person’s gender identity or gender to prevent stigmatization, sarcasm or devaluation of people of all genders and to express sexual bias that does not respect individual rights and freedoms.
5. Recruiting committee members or people holding various positions in the organization: Encourage the recruitment of people of all genders to join committees at all levels.
6. Preventing and solving the problem of harassment or sexual harassment in the workplace: Strengthen knowledge and understanding about sexual harassment or harassment behavior and have guidelines to prevent and solve the problem of harassment in the workplace.
Examples of activities to align with the university’s anti-discrimination policy and foster awareness among university staff and students:
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya organized the 14th Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya Freshmen’ Night Contest (“RUTS STAR 2023”) event under the theme “The Paradise of the Sea,” aiming to select first-year students with outstanding personality, skills, and attitudes to serve as model students who will represent the university in various public and university-level activities.
This year’s RUTS STAR 2023 pageant is not only a platform for identifying students with the potential to be the university’s “Star” and “Moon,” but it also seeks to encourage participants to freely express their unique identities. The event promotes inclusivity by welcoming diverse modes of dress and self-expression across all genders, supporting the LGBTQ community, and fostering equality and acceptance of individual diversity. Furthermore, it provides a space for participants to demonstrate their abilities, creativity, and positive attitudes toward society.
RUTS STAR 2023 reinforces the importance of respecting individual rights, freedom, and diversity in creative and constructive ways within the educational community.
