The Food and Nutrition program is actively contributing to Songkhla’s initiative to become a “UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.” This effort was prominently showcased during the Miss Grand Songkhla 2023 event, held on February 11, 2023.
On February 3, 2023, at Building 10 of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, the program conducted a demonstration of chef’s table-style cooking in preparation for the upcoming gala dinner for Miss Grand Songkhla 2023. This event highlighted the importance of local ingredients sourced from Songkhla Province, all of which meet the standards of Geographical Indication (GI). GI is a designation used for products that originate from specific locations, ensuring that they possess quality and reputation linked to that area. Essentially, GI serves as a local brand that signifies the quality and origin of the products.
The team of student chefs, along with faculty members, collaborated to create two signature dishes that will be featured at the event: Miang Singora and Noodle Nah Leh. These dishes not only showcase the culinary skills of the students but also emphasize the rich flavors and cultural heritage of Songkhla’s local ingredients.
This initiative not only promotes the talents of students and faculty but also strengthens the local economy by highlighting the importance of using and celebrating regional produce. By integrating these elements into the Miss Grand Songkhla event, the Food and Nutrition program plays a vital role in promoting Songkhla as a center of culinary excellence and creativity.
