On February 20, 2024, a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Agro-Industry at RUTS collaborated with the agricultural team of The Wang Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to conduct a community training workshop on catfish processing.
The activity, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirinart Sriaonuan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saowanee Chaipetch, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanikan Thorsin, Asst. Prof. Dr. Supasit Chooklin, and Dr. Suthasinee Thongnok, aimed to enhance the capacity of local farmers to produce high-quality, safe, and hygienic processed catfish products.
Beyond skill development, the team also promoted educational opportunities at the Faculty of Agro-Industry, introducing bachelor’s degree programs in Food Technology and Innovation and Food and Service Management. These programs focus on developing skilled technologists, chefs, nutritionists, and food entrepreneurs.
This initiative focuses on promoting the utilization of local raw materials and transforming them into value-added products, which helps strengthen the local economy and encourages sustainable production practices. By enhancing the capacity of community producer groups, it enables farmers and local entrepreneurs to improve their skills, increase product quality, and expand their market opportunities.
Furthermore, the program creates sustainable economic opportunities that not only generate income but also build long-term resilience within the community. At the same time, it encourages local youth to pursue higher education by demonstrating how academic knowledge and innovation can be applied to real-world community development. This integration of education, economic growth, and local resource utilization contributes to a stronger, more self-reliant community and supports the goals of sustainable development.
