On 13 November 2024, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, together with the Department of Fisheries and NRCT, welcomed Mr. Weerapat Kiatfuangfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, to visit the Blue Crab Bank Project in Songkhla Province. This project integrates renewable energy technology with coastal community-based food security initiatives.

The activity involved the installation of solar-powered systems (2.4 kW capacity and 5 kWh energy storage) at multiple blue crab bank sites to ensure stable energy supply for hatchery and conservation activities. This system supports continuous operations even during power outages, increasing blue crab larvae survival rates and ensuring reliable access to marine resources for the community and students engaged in coastal food system learning.

The project is part of an ongoing collaborative effort among:

  • Ministry of Energy (Songkhla Provincial Energy Office)
  • Department of Fisheries
  • Department of Marine and Coastal Resources
  • PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP)
  • Local administrative organizations and coastal communities

Solar energy systems have been installed at 9 community sites to reduce operational costs and improve local food system resilience. In addition, 3 sites were supported under NRCT and RUTS, promoting sustainable marine resource management for future student learning and community access.

This initiative creates a living learning platform for students to engage with sustainable seafood systems, helping to maintain accessible, affordable, and nutritious marine food sources while supporting local communities.
