RUTS Delivers Its 2025 Annual Vocational Training Plan at Three Southern Development Centres, Open to the Public

(Programmed vocational training: annual plan, open to the public)

Short vocational training at the Southern Development Centres follows an annual training plan announced in advance. All three centres are located on university premises: the Southern Border Development Centre at the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology, Songkhla; the Andaman Southern Development Centre at the College of Hospitality and Tourism, Trang; and the Gulf of Thailand Southern Development Centre at the College of Industrial Technology and Management, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The training is open free of charge to members of the public who are not RUTS students, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). Target groups are tourism operators, restaurant owners, community entrepreneurs, workers seeking a career change and unemployed people. The aim is to upskill, reskill and build new skills for the workforce in southern Thailand's coastal tourism and creative industries.

Training is hands-on and takes place in the university's own laboratories and real working spaces. Seven courses ran in 2025. The Southern Border Development Centre delivered five: Reviewer (Cohort 2) and Professional Barista Standards (Cohort 2) on 10–11 February 2025, Event Management and Light and Sound Business on 15–16 March 2025, Electrical System Administration on 19–20 March 2025, and Professional Bartending (Cohort 1) on 24–25 May 2025. The Andaman centre ran Product Design and Branding for New-Generation Tourism Entrepreneurs on 20–21 May 2025, and the Gulf of Thailand centre ran Professional Barista Standards (Cohort 1) on 10–11 February 2025.

Professional Bartending (Cohort 1), 24 May 2025

Professional Bartending (Cohort 1) was held in the Chantharaksa Meeting Room at the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology. Participants learned about types of beverages, menu creation, cost control, purchasing, pricing, mixing techniques and bartending flair.

At the Workforce Development Centre room of the College of Hospitality and Tourism, participants in the branding course worked on brand identity, brand design, digital-age communication and marketing tools to reach target customers precisely.

The barista course at the Hotel Training Centre building of the College of Industrial Technology and Management covered slow-bar and speed-bar brewing, espresso extraction, milk steaming, hot and cold menus, machine care and cost calculation for opening a coffee shop. Trainers from Boncafe taught alongside lecturers from the Hotel Management programme.

In 2025, 243 people from 7 provinces completed the seven courses, and all received certificates. Follow-up showed that 85 percent of graduates used what they learned to work or increase their income within three months.
