8. News Content:
In 2025, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) took educational activities beyond its campuses to schools, community enterprises and communities in Songkhla and Trang, on both a programmed and an ad-hoc basis. Programmed activities included teaching activities designed by students for pupils in remote schools, student volunteer schemes run every year by student clubs, and technology transfer from a multi-phase research project. Ad-hoc activities included a virtual reality exhibition in a school, volunteer development of a rural school, a stingless bee product workshop at a community enterprise, and volunteer work to restore schools and communities after the November 2025 floods. Counting only activities with confirmed figures, more than 238 pupils and community members took part.
"Little Engineers: Book & Build" in Remote Schools
(Programmed: tailored teaching activity under the 2025 Education Quality and Local Development Project)
The Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology ran this activity under the 2025 Education Quality and Local Development Project, in which higher education institutions mentor local schools, as Activity 1 of the reading promotion theme: "Designing Reading-Based Learning Media: Little Engineers Book & Build". Assistant Professor Charifah Hadyee, Assistant Dean, supervised the project. Twenty-four second-year Industrial Engineering students designed all of the activities themselves, pairing reading with basic hands-on technical work, and taught the pupils on a peer-teaching basis.

On 10 November 2025, the students visited Ban Baroi Border Patrol Police School in Padang Besar Subdistrict, Sadao District, Songkhla. More than 32 pupils, all children and young people with limited access to education, took part. The next day, 11 November 2025, the same team ran the activity for 30 pupils at Tha Chin Udom Witthaya School in Nam Noi Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, opened by Assistant Professor Chaiya Thanaphatsiri, Dean of the faculty.
The activity helps young people in remote areas learn by reading and building their own work, combining a reading habit with basic vocational skills. Over the two days, more than 62 pupils took part.

Student-Run Volunteer Schemes: Kru Racha Volunteers for Community Development (9th Edition) and the Electrical Education Club (3rd Edition)
(Programmed: voluntary student-run schemes held regularly)

The Student Union of the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology has run the Kru Racha Volunteers for Community Development project nine times. The 9th edition, "Singora Colours: Stories of Natural Fabric Dyeing", took place on 2 June 2025 at the Hua Khao Women's Community Enterprise, Singhanakhon District, Songkhla. Ms. Peeranet Boonnasit, the group's chair, taught the students the whole process, from preparing natural materials and dyeing to managing production. The Student Union of the Faculty of Architecture helped design fabric patterns to open up new market opportunities for the community.
The standout product was a tie-dyed shirt coloured with mango leaves, with patterns expressing Songkhla's identity and an embedded QR code that opens an AR image telling the story of the community and its culture. On 17 September 2025, the Student Union exhibited this work to a committee from the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board.

The Electrical Education Club of the Electrical Engineering programme held its 3rd community development project on 9–10 May 2025 at Wat Sala Luang Lang School, Tha Bon Subdistrict, Ranot District, Songkhla. Students used their electrical engineering skills to repair indoor and outdoor electrical systems, maintain buildings and run activities with the community.
While doing the repairs, students taught teachers and residents about electrical safety, such as using electricity safely and spotting hazards in buildings. The project was funded by donations from the public and external organisations. Twenty-nine students took part.
Transferring Solar Dryer Technology to Community Enterprises
(Programmed: community training as Activity 5 of a multi-phase research project)

On 10–11 November 2025, a research team led by Assistant Professor Nasaporn Thammachot, project leader, delivered solar dryers and trained members of two community enterprises to use them: the Hand-Pounded Curry Paste Community Enterprise in Chang Subdistrict, Na Thawi District, and the Ban Laem Yang Community Enterprise in Ko Yai Subdistrict, Krasae Sin District, Songkhla.
Community innovators practised operating and maintaining the equipment to improve the quality, safety and value of their curry pastes and herbal products. This was Activity 5 of the research project "Applying Appropriate Technology and Participatory Learning to Raise Household Income of Curry Paste and Herbal Product Producers in Songkhla", funded by the Program Management Unit on Area Based Development (PMU A) in fiscal year 2025. Eighteen community enterprise members took part.
Virtual Reality (VR) Exhibition on Reducing Marine Litter in a School
(Ad-hoc: educational demonstration in a school)

On 6 February 2025, the RUTS Natural Resources and Environment Institute, Trang Campus, brought its exhibition to the "Open House: Sufficiency Economy" academic fair for the 2024 academic year at Sikao Prachaphadungwit School, Sikao District, Trang. The event was chaired by Mr. Chainarong Changruea, Director of the Trang–Krabi Secondary Educational Service Area Office. Visitors, especially young people, used VR headsets to explore a virtual underwater world and learn about the impact of plastic waste and human pollution on marine ecosystems. Sixty pupils took part.
Volunteers Restore Schools and Communities after the Hat Yai Floods
(Ad-hoc: emergency activity by students and staff)
After major flooding in Hat Yai District on 21–28 November 2025, the university sent volunteer teams into the area. On 4–5 December 2025, the Faculty of Engineering led lecturers, staff and student volunteers on the RUTS Rescue "Srivijaya Volunteer Spirit" mission to inspect utilities at Srisawangwong School. The main electrical system passed safety checks, and the team restored the electrical systems of the pre-kindergarten building and the welfare shop to full operation. More than 50 percent of electrical, electronic and computer equipment was working again by the end of the first day, and restoration was over 70 percent complete on the second day. Students also taught teachers about electrical safety, such as checking flooded equipment before switching it on and spotting leakage hazards.

On 13 December 2025, the Student Union of the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology held "Kru Racha Volunteers for Development" with the Mirror Foundation and the RUTS Alumni Association. Students carried out a major clean-up at Municipal School 6, distributed essential supplies, and repaired electrical systems and appliances for the community under Satchakun Bridge, advising residents on using electricity safely after the floodwaters receded. In total, 80 student volunteers helped 48 households.

(Ad-hoc: workshop designed for the community)

On 5 July 2025, Rattaphum College held a hands-on workshop at the Phueng Jiw Mueang Ban Phru Community Enterprise, Ban Phru Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla. Ms. Thamonchanok Kongkhwan, Director of the College, led executives, lecturers and students to the event. Lecturers Ammornrat Kongkachot and Nattirong Krittanon taught participants how to process honey and stingless bee propolis to add value to community products. Twenty-eight people took part.
Engineering and Technology Volunteers for Development, with Alumni
