On 27 May 2025, the Student Development Division of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya organized the workshop "Developing Capacity for Counseling Students in the University (RUTS Care Mental Health)" at the Samila Meeting Room, President's Office Building (Mueang Songkhla District, Songkhla Province). Asst. Prof. Piya Prasongchan, Vice President, presided over the opening.

The project was carried out under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the "Partner Network for Mental Care: Stepping Towards Quality Thai People" project, in collaboration with the Mental Health Center 12, Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, to upgrade the care and monitoring system for mental health problems among students and staff so that it is comprehensive and meets standards. The key operations are as follows:

1. Capacity Building: Workshops led by specialist experts to develop staff from all units in the skills and processes of quality basic counseling.

2. Referral System: Establishing a counseling service mechanism to reduce mental health problems, together with a system for referring cases to medical specialists in a step-by-step and safe manner.

3. Integration with national health policy: Supporting the Ministry of Public Health's policy for fiscal year 2025 (B.E. 2568) to build health security, reduce inequality, and increase access to mental health services that are convenient, fast and meet standards.

This activity builds a strong mental health care service system through trained personnel, helps promote good mental well-being, reduces the risk of mental health problems, and creates an environment that supports sustainable learning and working.

On 28–29 April 2025, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) sent staff from its Student Development Division, together with the president of the Student Organization, to a two-day workshop on rehearsing responses to mental health crises in universities. Multi-agency cooperation

The workshop brought together universities, public health agencies and relevant security authorities to plan how students should be supported effectively when a mental health crisis occurs.

Practical skills training

Staff and student leaders were trained in four key areas:

  • The Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Negotiation techniques and responding to mental health crises
  • Setting up systems to care for and support students in the university
  • Mental Health First Aid

Student leaders involved

The Student Organization president took part in the learning and drills so that student representatives can act as a network to watch for warning signs, communicate, and help fellow students promptly.

The university said the training has made its staff better prepared to handle mental health crises, with a clear system for managing incidents. Staff and a student leader are now trained in mental health first aid, which it said helps create a safe environment that promotes good mental well-being across the campus.
