Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya Promotes Gender Equality by Supporting Male Employees in Caring for Their Wives During Childbirth

Personnel Administration Division, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya

Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) promotes gender equality and a family-friendly working environment by providing leave entitlements for male employees to assist their legally recognized wives during childbirth. The policy is based on the university’s regulations governing working hours, leave, and compensation for university employees, together with the Prime Minister’s Office Regulations on Leave for Government Officials B.E. 2555 (2012).

Under Clause 20 of the university’s regulations, eligible employees may request leave to assist their wives during childbirth for a continuous period of up to 15 working days. The leave must be requested through the appropriate supervisory process before or on the date of leave and taken within 90 days from the date of childbirth.

This policy encourages shared family responsibilities by enabling fathers to support their partners during childbirth and the early stages of family care. It also helps employees balance work and family commitments and contributes to a more inclusive workplace in which caregiving is recognized as a shared responsibility.

Through this policy, RUTS demonstrates its commitment to gender equality, employee welfare, and family support. The initiative contributes to SDG 5 by encouraging a more equitable distribution of family responsibilities and supporting employees in combining their professional and family lives.
