In accordance with the RUTS Life on Land Policy (Revised Edition), A.D. 2025, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya promotes proper waste management and disposal, including the safe management of hazardous materials and waste generated by university operations. The policy requires appropriate procedures covering waste identification, separation, labeling, safe storage, handling, transportation, and disposal in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
In implementing this policy, the Plant Pathology Laboratory (CB311), Registration No. 2-0060-0001-2, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, has implemented laboratory safety practices since 2024. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornsil Seephueak and laboratory staff, the laboratory applies hazardous waste management and biosafety practices to support the safe handling and management of potentially hazardous biological and chemical materials.
The laboratory continuously implements hazardous waste management and biosafety practices in compliance with the university’s policy and established laboratory safety standards. These practices include the safe management of hazardous laboratory waste and adherence to biosafety requirements in biological research. Research involving biodiversity-related biological resources requires appropriate authorization before experimental activities commence. The laboratory underwent a formal peer evaluation covering eight components of laboratory safety management. Component 3 assessed hazardous waste management, while Component 6 evaluated biosafety-related requirements and compliance with laboratory safety standards.
In 2025, the Plant Pathology Laboratory obtained laboratory safety certification associated with the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Certificate No. 16-2025/00001. The laboratory successfully completed a peer evaluation covering all eight components of laboratory safety standards. Component 3, addressing hazardous waste management, achieved a score of 92.00%, meeting the required assessment criteria. Component 6, addressing biosafety-related requirements, achieved a score of 100%, demonstrating full achievement of the assessed criteria. These results provide measurable evidence of the laboratory’s compliance with established safety standards and its implementation of responsible hazardous waste management and biosafety practices.
