RUTS Policy on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Terrestrial Ecosystems
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya implements the RUTS Life on Land Policy (Revised Edition), A.D. 2025, which establishes the university’s commitment to the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. The policy specifically promotes the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems associated with the university, including forests, mountains, drylands, and other ecologically significant areas. It also supports biodiversity conservation and responsible land management through education, research, community engagement, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
In 2025, the university demonstrated the implementation of this commitment through biodiversity monitoring of limestone-hill ecosystems in Thung Song Municipality, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. On 25 April, 12 June, and 1 July, RUTS researchers, together with an ecological specialist from Walailak University and local nature-conservation groups, conducted amphibian and reptile surveys to document species occurrence and habitat conditions.
The surveys included monitoring of the beautiful pit viper, a limestone-restricted species listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. The resulting ecological information contributes to understanding the conservation value of limestone habitats and provides scientific evidence that can support continued monitoring and sustainable ecosystem management.
