Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), through the Office of Innovation Management and Technology Transfer, supported its researchers to compete and exhibit their research, inventions and innovations at the 2025 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2025), held on 3–6 December 2025 at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center, Seoul, Republic of Korea. SIIF is organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) and is one of Asia’s leading international invention fairs. RUTS joined the Thailand pavilion led by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), which presented more than 220 Thai research works, inventions and innovations from 63 organizations. The participation aimed to promote RUTS research and innovation internationally, test the inventions with international juries and businesses, and build international networks. Four RUTS inventions received international awards.
1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornsil Seephueak – “B-mixed: Mixed Bacillus Bioproduct”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornsil Seephueak of the Faculty of Agriculture presented “B-mixed”, a mixed Bacillus bioproduct for controlling plant diseases, including root and stem rot of durian caused by Phytophthora palmivora. The product builds on the faculty’s research on endophytic Bacillus strains, such as B. subtilis, B. velezensis and B. siamensis, whose greenhouse trials showed disease control of up to 97.12%, higher than the chemical fungicide mancozeb (77.16%) and a commercial B. subtilis product (75.76%). B-mixed offers farmers an effective and environmentally friendly alternative to chemical fungicides.
At SIIF 2025, B-mixed received the Special Award for Innovation from King Abdulaziz University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
2. Asst. Prof. Sirirat Laohaprapanon – “ST Brightening Serum”
Asst. Prof. Sirirat Laohaprapanon and the research team from the Thai Traditional Medicine Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, presented the “ST Brightening Serum”, a facial serum containing Stemona tuberosa (Non Tai Yak) extract and edible bird’s nest. The invention builds on her research on Stemona tuberosa, a medicinal herb of southern Thailand whose active compounds help brighten the skin, act as antioxidants and inhibit tyrosinase and melanin formation, combined with bird’s nest to nourish the skin. The work adds value to local Thai herbs as a safe, natural alternative to cosmetics containing harmful chemicals.
At SIIF 2025, the ST Brightening Serum received the NRCT Special Award from the National Research Council of Thailand.
3. Dr. Sunisa Kongtong and Mr. Natchathrit Roekngam – “VetiGuard: Nano-Spray of Essential Oil Formula for Pet Skin”
Dr. Sunisa Kongtong and Mr. Natchathrit Roekngam of the Faculty of Veterinary Science presented “VetiGuard”, a nano-spray containing a formula of essential oils for the skin of companion animals. Skin problems are among the most common conditions in pets. Using nanotechnology-based delivery, the spray improves the stability and skin penetration of natural essential oils with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, providing a natural option for pet skin care and reducing reliance on chemical treatments.
At SIIF 2025, VetiGuard received the NRCT Honorable Mention Award and the Bronze Prize.
4. Dr. Siripong Wongphonprateep – “Chili Color Boost: A Shrimp-Friendly Innovation for Premium Shrimp”
Dr. Siripong Wongphonprateep of the Faculty of Agriculture presented “Chili Color Boost”, a natural feed innovation that uses carotenoid pigments extracted from chili to enhance the color of farmed shrimp. Shell and flesh color is a key factor in the market value of cooked shrimp. Based on his research, chili carotenoid extract encapsulated in alginate microcapsules and added to feed increased pigment accumulation in shrimp muscle without affecting survival or growth, offering farmers a low-cost, natural alternative to synthetic color additives to produce premium shrimp.
At SIIF 2025, Chili Color Boost received the FIRI Award from the Institute of Researchers and Inventors in I.R. Iran.
These achievements demonstrate the role of RUTS, through the Office of Innovation Management and Technology Transfer, in developing research into inventions with commercial potential and presenting them on the international stage. By turning research on beneficial microorganisms, Thai herbs, essential oils and natural pigments into new products for agriculture, aquaculture, cosmetics and animal health, the four inventions contribute directly to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, while also supporting sustainable food production, good health and well-being, responsible production and international partnerships.
